Following overnight temperatures plunging as low as –8C at Longleat recently, Safari keepers have been carefully monitoring Half Mile Lake and its resident sea lions as the lake begins to freeze over.
Regular checks and ice breaking were the order of the day as staff made holes in the ice for the sea lions to swim to and from. With the ice reaching a few centimetres in depth in places though, the sea lions seemed to be having as much fun out of the water as in the water!
