I have seen literally millions of bird images in my time and thats the only reason why I very rarely comment on them. Now this one has that special wow factor. Cant put my finger on it. Could be the way the little bird is sitting in the frame almost with an expression on its beak. Cheeky bugger!. Well done on an extra special image.

Thank you for your comment. I took this with a Canon 40D and Canon 500mm F4 IS. The Goldfinch was just a little further than the minimum lens focus distance, say 5m. I then cropped the image by about 10% to get it a little tighter.

Your version of the goldfinch is much more flamboyant than the one we see here in the U.S. What a gorgeous bird and what a gorgeous photo! I’m amazed and in awe of this beauty.

Agree with Bonnie and would love to get a shot of one of your goldfinches. Gorgeous bird indeed, but from a technical perspective, very nice work here with sharp focus, feather detail and colors are amazing!!

Oh my goodness, this is just incredibly stunning.

Now, I have goldfinches in my garden which I attempt to photograph but for some reason they never come out sharp. Your image is really sharp, as well as being a great composition and I think that’s why is makes it such a winner! One day I will get my goldfinch family to pose properly for me!
