“We lock ourselves up in Bone Prisons same as everybody else.Forgetting who we are, why we are, where we’re going. Till one day we come across a story we left for ourselves and remember why we’re wearing these skins.”
~Quote from the book The Years Best Fantasy and Horror by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling. This excerpt was taken from the end of a wonderful fantasy tale entitled Heartfires.
The tale speaks of connecting ourselves to who we are and where we are. It speaks of doors…are they open to allow someone to leave or open to allow someone in. It tells of windows open and closed, but are they open or closed to allow something in or out or to keep something in or out? Books are closed, have they been read or do they wait to be read? The skeletons we all house can become prisons, making our flesh ill and spirit lifeless, for without the flesh and the spirit, we are mere prisoners within our own bones. We write our stories as life goes on so that we may always have it available to find our way, as long as we make effort to connect the prison of bones with the dancing flesh and free spirit.
