“It is important that students bring a certain ragamuffin, barefoot irreverence to their studies; they are not here to worship what is known, but to question it.”
This is the old well house for an old public schoolhouse in Ulster Heights, NY, USA (see images below for the school and read details) The well is still intact inside, and the water chute remains (lower left corner of building) An outhouse also stood further down the property, which has now fallen to total decay. This is where the children would “fetch” fresh water used by the school. The old schoolhouse(pictured below) which taught children up to eighth grade in the early 1900’s, in Ulster Heights, NY, USA, was closed in 1950. The school at one time sat closer to the road near the old well pump and outhouse on this property, and also housed the library in the upstairs portion of this building. The school was closed in 1950 after centralization of schools in the area took place.
The building was moved some years back to this location in the midst of the field, with a large foundation now attached for reasons unknown. Rumor has it the owners intended to open the school and build on as a historical landmark that would be open to the public…once the building was moved no further work has progressed, it has been left to fall to ruins now.
