An older porcupine “shuffles” along even though I stood only about five feet in front of him, typical of their behavior…just to shuffle along, taking life easily!(notice the quills are down, he is not alarmed)
Shuffles has what is known as “Snuffles” in porcupines and other wildlife, similar to a cold, due to lack of proper nutrients, mainly greens in the diet. Here he had just finished a ball of salt I had tossed him (They love salt!) and was beginning to sneeze and cough, wiping his face with each episode of snuffling!
