This will probably be my last statement of the old Almshouse (Poorhouse) in Sullivan County, New York, USA. This barn was once part of the almshouse farm, circa 1840-1960. It will be demolished shortly as was the house and other structures. What you see here is the bottom level where equipment for work was kept, and the upper level where the “criminally depraved and lunatics” were kept under lock and key! To the right in the woodlands is a cemetery used by the “Overseer” to bury those that did not survive. I can not help but wonder how that will be covered up by the government! One last radical opinion by a person, myself, who despises social injustice of any kind!

Why do they do this wanton destruction of historic buildings?
    Peter.

  • Clsoing the doors on a past they wish to forget and cover up!

Well I suppose the good news is that we don’t do these things any more, well captured and documented Pamela.

  • I suppose that is one good thing, thank you!
