“It sounds mercenary and it smacks of rats leaving the sinking ship. But get real, when everyone is bailing out, you don’t want to be the last man standing.”
~Robbie Fowler

Need I say more? A controversial image created this morning after waking to find Four more groups closing, yesterday it was three, the day before, four others sent up announcements of closing. Seems RB has sunk its own ship with the constant Growth of their Company, which in reality has become a major liability. The endless Fixes RB has employed of things not broken has discouraged those who were so very committed here no so long ago.

I see endless snapshots rather than quality, well thought photographs, and artworks thrown together without planning. It is apparent by the feed each day not many are contributing, less comment or join in group activities, and the list of groups shrinks out of site with each new day.

What was once a flourishing art community that we all could embrace, where we took the hands of the Newbie and helped them through, now lies in the vast seas as it ship sinks below the horizon. What more is there to say, only the sorrow remains.

I couldn’t agree with you more dear Pamela.
It has just gone down the pan.
Such a shame as it was a great community,
    Which we the artists made,
and RB in their wisdom have ruined.x

  • It is a real shame Catherine…so sad to see this happen, I have been here a long time, but I feel as though I need to start looking elsewhere to go anywhere. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent work Pamela and oh so true. Couldn’t agree with you more.

I have some nice photos taken on recent exploits and just do not have the inclination to upload them on here, especially after looking at the out of focus snapshots which seem to attract huge amounts of comments, but anything decent, gets ignored.

    Enjoy your weekend.

  • I am so glad to see there are others who share in what I see and have been experiencing here. So sorry to see this happening…what a shame! Thank you much…enjoy your weekend also!

YES, exactly the way I feel. I counted the groups I am a member of and 31 of them are not accepting works.
I don’t see a solution without any one in administration listening to the ones of us who have given blood sweat and tears to this site. I know the site has been sold but I have searched and can not find who the new owners are. I feel like a renter of a run down apartment who can not find the landlord to see about getting some heat.

  • Yes, from what I understand this site has been sold…but been keeping it hush hush more or less. It is a shame this has fallen apart and people are bailing out so quickly! Funny, but I see the other sites similar to this capitalizing on the Fall of RB!

I’ve been trying to adopt some groups, and can’t even get an answer from RB on that. So simple to do, but its like no ones Minding the Asylum. Apathy definitely has sat in. It breaks my heart to see my favorite groups go by the wayside.

  • You are not the first one I have heard this from…seems they just do not care or they are too busy looking elsewhere, ignoring the people here! Many of the best groups are shutting down, yet RB looks past all of this. Thank you for sharing!

It is most sad Pamela, I used to call this home! The only place I could go for honesty and friendship! To be inspired and led! Like everything else in the world today we cater to the young and nasty where art is not longer art and greed rules!

Love the work and your expression of RB today!

  • You have said it all my friend, it is such a sad way to see things fall from grace!

Wow. Awesome work, Pamela! This conveys how SO many of us feel!! I’m afraid my groups are also on the list of closings, although I did advertise for hosts – so if someone wants to take them over, they may well be around. I really feel when the site started focusing on t-shirts, which they have, good photography and art were pushed far into the background. We (hosts) have battled a tsunami even where we’ve said “No shirts!” There is no joy in having to reject 92% of the submissions coming in; and there is a domino effect, as well. In the end, most of the good photographers and artists here have had to face a vital question. Do we really want to be a part of what’s become a trashy t-shirt site??? The answer being, no… at least, for me and I know I’m not alone It IS really sad. The Bubble used to be THE BEST. Now, they’ve set fire to their own dirigible. I love how you’ve expressed this in your work! Even though I hate that it’s happened. Yes – it’s time to bail. What a travesty! Hope you’ll let me know about those other sites via Bubblemail if you get a chance… maybe I will see you over there!

  • Yes Nadya, as a matter of fact it was your announcements this morning that got me inspired to do this. The better hosts here on RB just can not assume more, as much as I wanted to reach out to take some of your groups, I just have enough now in a place I am mourning (RB).
I am going to start back over at FAA (Fine Art America) as many local Hudson Valley Artists here are now using the new and IMPROVED site there to offer their work in style and grace! None of those people wanted to be part of the Trashy T-Shirt groupies here on RB! Ah yes, time to bail out!
Thanks so much for replying, and much success to you in the future.

I am so very sad about RB going down. When I first came to RB, I felt such an overwhelming sense of welcoming and nurturing community and it helped me develop so much. The people are TOPS and I hate to see this mass exodus after already having one before it when many left for Blue Canvas. This used to be thing I did last thing at night and first thing in the morning—see what was happening at RB and viewing all the new that just flat out INSPIRED me! There is still great work here but I seem to have lost a connection with friends here since the last big overhaul of change. It’s sad to see all the magic leave RB. Deviantart has great work—but no soul. RB had both. The heart of it seems to have gone dark and cold.

  • What you say is so very true…I also felt that wave of embracing friendship when I started here, and it helped me grow immensely as well. Just so hard to understand why they have done what they have to destroy such a great community! Thank you so much for your heartfelt response.
