Accipiters are very swift and agile arial predators. They are specialized at catching smaller birds, often ambushing them on the wing. These hawks often get a bad name due to their tendency to patrol bird feeders, picking off unsuspecting songbirds. These hawks actually serve a vital role in keeping songbird populations healthy by feeding on sick and injured individuals. Sometimes nature is raw, but this is the web of life.
