The Whooping Crane (Grus americana) is North America’s tallest bird and is named for their loud whooping calls. They are highly endangered with only around 400 birds remaining in the wild. In an effort to reintroduce Florida’s population of Whooping Cranes, a group of cranes has been trained to follow an ultra light aircraft each spring along their historical migration path to their breeding grounds in Wisconsin, returning to Florida in the autumn.
