WHERE?
Today, there was a man selling “The Big Issue” outside the supermarket and I remembered a poem of mine from the past.
I’ve heralded the Spring
With the loss of my appendix.
I’m reclining in the hospital
and hoping not to vomit
when I eat the little bit of fish
with frilly parsley on it.
Blossoms glow from china jugs
The family have done me proud
Cards from friends proliferate
– they know my favourites
Poppies in an etching
Poppies in batik.
I’ll be housebound now for several weeks
There’ll be love and fond support
But if my home was a cardboard box
and this happening arose
would there be a card or a single flower?
and where would I go to convalesce?
