12 Spotted Skimmer by

A common North American skimmer dragonfly, the Twelve-spotted Skimmer, Libellula pulchella, is found in southern Canada and all mainland USA states.
Each wing contains 3 dark spots, begining on the outside of the wing. The top wing has two white spots on each side and the bottom wing has three white spots on each side. The third spot on the lower wing is located below the dark spot along the dragonflies body.

This individual is a male of the species distinguished by the presence of the white dotes on the wings which are absent from the female.

About NaturalCultural

I’m an amateur photographer. I do it for fun, to identify animals and insects without having to capture them, I look for the patterns and small images in life and try to capture the spirit they portray. I make it up as I go.

My inspiration comes from within. My images may not be award winning however I can assure you I had fun getting it.
