Eucalyptus signate is most often found in sandy often swampy coastal areas or open forests attaining a height of up to 25m in north east New South Wales, Australia. The bark always is represented by distinctive scribbles from which it obtained its common name – Scribbly Gum. Within Australia there are many species of Eucalyptus which share this common name due to the marking created by a moth which burrows just beneath the bark creating often wondrous and always unique designs. This individual is located near Pottsville on the NSW North Coast with the image being taken in the late afternoon.
Isn’t nature fascinating…these trees have always always captured my imagination and inspired the child in me, wonderful image! …I’ve spent many happy times near Pottsvile, we are so fortunate to have some of the prettiest coastal spots!
Karin you are so right we live in a very special place. I always try to capture the squiggles (they are like a pet project) and always feel let down when i see them on the screen. This one though came out full of colour just as it was in the bush so I am happy enough with it to share. Thank you for favouriting and taking the time to visit this and other images.

Thank you so much Kathie for your positive comment. The colours in this are pleasing as they represent accurately what i saw with the naked eye.
