This is the Alpha Male of the Mollie pack in Yellowstone National Park. His pack is one of the largest and most successful packs in the park and is known for its preference of Bison over elk as prey.

its true John, when i look at the photo I feel like its eyes convey deep comprehension. its no wonder the Indians considered the wolf the wisest animal of the mountain.

The Mollies are still strong and well, this wolf has taken his pack and wandered off to lands far from human eyes in the Yellowstone backcountry. A few offshoots from the pack now inhabit Hayden valley and are set to become the new pack for the area he once ruled.
