The Last Eagle
My mixed-media painting depicts a native American (aka Indian) lamenting the passing of his lifestyle, including the eagle. The background of a smoky haze over a burned out forest emphasizes the devastation he is feeling.
This was first published as wall decor accompanied by a copy of a letter written by chief Seattle to the president (Grant, I believe) in which he expressed his concern about the changes his people were experiencing.
Now available as a print.

Wow…
Thanks everyone for the kind and generous reception to “The Last Eagle.”
This was resurrected from the archives. I did the painting I think around 1977 when living in Oregon. (Being in Oregon was an inspiration all its own.)

This is a beautiful composition. Love your choice of warm, rich brown colors. Beautifully executed and an instant favorite for me.

Such things can move to tears. I was in Chatanooga last year, reading the slabs on the trail of tears tribute near the aquarium – strong words.
