True Wealth and Resolution

Upon reading Karen’s poem Fist of Confusion I wanted to relay to you a story that I had read online (maybe you have read it also). So here it is:

“One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the purpose of showing his son how the poor people live so he could be thankful for his wealth.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?” “It was great, Dad.” “Did you see how poor people can be?” the father asked. “Oh yeah” said the son. “So what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father.

The son answered, “I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.” “We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.” “Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.” “We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.” “We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.” “We buy our food, but they grow theirs.” “We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.”

With this the boy’s father was speechless. Then his son added, “Thanks dad for showing me how poor we are.”

Thanks for reading, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read Karen’s poem Fist of Confusion . You won’t be disappointed.

Thanks good friend – I had not read this before. So much insight to be gained on human nature and what is really important in life. Blessings come in many sizes and in many ways; happy is the man that can see and appreciate them all.

You are right, Roger. We are sometimes blinded by what we don’t have. Thank you for reading (and for reading Karen’s work.)

Thanks so much Metamorphosis for your gracious comment. I believe that this is one of those works that no one really knows who the author is. I found this website in 9th grade, and have read and spread as many of the stories as I could.

I also find your very nice. There are two things I noticed about your work that draw me to it.

    1) It bears a message of freeing yourself from the bounds of human weakness, and finding strength in God’s Infinite Mercy.

    2) It’s very personal, I can see you shining through it.

Thank you for your reading. Keep writing happily.
