She wanted him to go
but she didn’t want him gone
she wondered how she might
breathe without his lungs inside her

she wanted to write with her
own hands again
but his name was still written
all over her fingers

she tried to leave him quietly
this time but she was unsure
whether she could disappear
when he was everywhere and
nowhere all the same
like the salt in her skin
or the atoms in the air

she knew he would
eventually go and one day
she’d wake up to an empty sky
she hoped it’d be empty only
because he’d sewn her
some stars into her heart
with silk before he was
gone for good

    well.
this is just ridiculously beautiful. swoon comes to mind sweetheart… you’re making it impossible for me to stand by previous claims of finding my favourite piece of your collection. but i don’t care… keep going, keep writing, keep making it too hard to choose… because if i fill my arms with a bundle of your words and never love one more than the other, i’ll be gluttonously happy.
    this really is sublime.

Wow beautiful poem…I loved every word of it. Such beautiful words
I love this part so much:
she hoped it’d be empty only
    because he’d sewn her
    some stars into her heart
    with silk before he was
    gone for good
    Another favorite.

I love this. should everyone be so blessed as to feel that kind of love, just once, even if it has to go…Kristin

  • natapee replied

what a lovely thought, you’re exactly right. like they say, it’s better to love, than never love at all. if i’m being cliched and all for a moment.
