Artist's Description

Photos taken with Canon IXUS 80 IS and minor editing with Lightzone. SIMPLICITY is my niche!
My brother’s backyard in Tambourine Mtn QLD Australia

Litoria Chloris (Red-eyed green tree frog)

This little guy is really a little guy; he’d just about fit into a matchbox, but the noise generated from such a small creature is astounding – in fact, it is deafening! There were half a dozen frogs present at the time, some enjoying a swim in the pool, but this little fellow was on the glass of the pool fence, hence the reflection, and he looks like he’s besotted with his own reflection… a case of narcissism perhaps? The background stripes are actually the upright posts of the fence, and along with the frog’s mirror image, everything combines well to give this image a wonderful abstract dimension. I was half tempted to call this piece Abstract Amphibian but the name didn’t seem to suit the frog’s inquisitive posture.

With the exception of very ‘minor’ contrast adjustments, gentle sharpening and some spot cleaning of the glass, this photo is pretty much straight out of the camera. The background has been gently softened with a gaussian blur to eliminate some grain noise. Other than that, I didn’t have to do much to it. The whole process took me no more than 10 minutes. The photo was taken at night with flash, and is a good effort (even if I do say so myself) considering the camera is just a ‘point and shoot’. I rarely do night photography; it’s just too bloody dark LOL, but I’m glad I made an effort on this occasion.
