Contours - Sydney Harbour by Neil Ross

Contour waves caught in the late afternoon light. It’s a crystal clear Autumn day in April 2010, and yet another cruise vessel plies the waterways on iconic Sydney Harbour. This view is looking west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, taken from the southern pylon. The vessel is just off Blues Point, heading towards Balmain.

Photo taken with Canon IXUS 80 IS and edited with Lightzone. SIMPLICITY is my niche!

I love anything that is unusual, unique, or just plain odd, and that’s the sort of image I try to capture. I’m so far from being the world’s best photographer it’s not funny, but I do have the photographer’s ‘eye’ and am more than proficient at capturing the images I see in my world. Thanks for taking the time to view my portfolio. Feel free to leave a message and say G’day.

what a great shot of shimmering waters with a wonderful cruise ship… love this! :)))

  • I did the bridge climb this day with a friend. After that, we climbed the pylons. It was just the right time of day. They’re probably 300 foot high, so it’s a great vantage point :-)

I was supposed to do the bridge climb but I am soo afraid of heights that I just didn’t see the fun in it.. maybe when I return? Hmm but love the contrast here :)

  • If you get the change Angela, do it! It’s very safe, and the bridge arch steps are very wide. Have a look at my photo “above the coathanger.” The railing is on both sides, you are tethered and harnessed. It’s impossible to fall. Scary? No. Exillerating? Absolutely :-)

    WOW!
    Fabulous!
Love the multiple angles of wake!
    V-nyce Light!
The little boats in the background are SO COOL!
    Makes me :)

  • Cheers Lacey. The pylon lookout is rather high, so it afford really good panoramic views. It’s a reasonably large cruise boat, so it gives a good indication how high it is. The harbour itself is very complex, so the water is always changing, just like the light. I don’t think it ever looks the same way twice. That’s what I love about Sydney :-)

    C-grats! Lacey

Man, I just keep hearing the best things about Sydney!

  • It’s a great place Lacey. Have you been to San Fransisco? To me, it has the same vibe. If I lived in the States, that’s where you’d find me :-)

awesome image and a great place :)

  • It’s a lovely spot overlooking the harbour. I doubt many Sydneysiders have been there. It’s one of those ‘out of the way’ spots that many would overlook. That’s part of it’s beauty :D
