Outer North Head, Sydney Harbour, NSW Australia.

Sydney and its surrounds, from the coastal cliffs to the Blue Mountains and beyond is build on Hawkesbury sandstone, the most amazing and colourful of all rock strata. The surreal weathered shapes, textures and rich autumn colours are highlighted best at dusk and dawn, its mood changing constantly throughout the day in response to the light. Sydney wouldn’t be the same without it.

Photos taken with Canon IXUS 80 IS and edited with Lightzone. SIMPLICITY is my niche!

The ‘iconic’ cliffs of North Head at the entrance to Sydney Harbour. Arriving into Sydney by boat is far more glamorous than arrivals through the airport, particularly when the headlands are here to welcome you.

I love anything that is unusual, unique, or just plain odd, and that’s the sort of image I try to capture. I’m so far from being the world’s best photographer it’s not funny, but I do have the photographer’s ‘eye’ and am more than proficient at capturing the images I see in my world. Thanks for taking the time to view my portfolio. Feel free to leave a message and say G’day.

    Beautiful shot!

  • Thanks very much Jupiter. The light really worked well here once the sun broke gently through the clouds. Just enough to highlight the colours in the rock :-)

Very pretty photo – you can feel the texture!

  • Thank you Jess. Sandstone is an amazing rock; rich in colour and weathers into the strangest of shapes. I lived in Port Moresby myself for a few years.

Oh did you. I grew up in Rabaul and Moresby – a long time ago I might add. Such a beautiful country. Would love to go back with my digital camera – imagine the shots we could get now. I absolutely love PNG.

  • I’ve not been there for many years myself. It is a beautiful country. Digital cameras make it so easy now, but back then I had my old SLR. It was used quite a bit, I can assure you :-)

What a great capture of the texture!

  • Thank you very much, Dance. Nature provides the most awesome abstracts, and the cliffs here are mind blowing. I’m really happy with this photo. I wish I took more :-)

Very Abstract. I like the textures.

  • Thanks very much Teresa. I wish I took more photos here. I didn’t know what I had at the time, but there’s always next time :-)

Beautiful shot and wonderful textures! I see an ape here!

  • Thanks very much Pauline. It’s one of those photos where everyone sees something different. A friend told me he could see a robot. An ape I can totally believe. A robot? I told him he was drinking too much coffee LOL. Thanks for your comment :-)

Great textures and colours lucky you to be able to see this for real..

  • These rocky outcrops are all over Sydney. In fact, they’re all over the country. This particular cliff is at the entrance to Sydney Harbour, and the sandstone is so weathered by wind and water. Fantastic surreal shapes that keep changing with the light. The colours never cease to amaze me. Most people take this for granted, Liesbeth. Such a pity. They just don’t see! The expression “Stop and smell the roses” is how I try to live my life :-)

    I admire your work!

  • Thanks very much Wendy. I appreciate that, and will try to keep it in mind on those days when I doubt myself (which seems to be often these days). Thanks again :-)
