It takes 4 guys to dig a hole in an 1 hour
But how long does it take for 2 guys to dig a 1/2 of hole?

The answer is you can’t dig half a hole, because once you have started digging you are in the hole. So, no matter when you stop you are already in it. The first shovel full begins the hole.
The first rule of holes is to stop digging once you are in one.

mathmatically it would be an hour. to dig said half sized hole.

Is this dig in the sense of shoveling or dig in the sense of liking something?

I dunno Ian – there’s occasions where I am in a hole and I don’t wanna leave it! :) My wife would slap me if she knew I said this though! LOL

Does time really matter in this case? I mean, to dig a hole any size for any reason; whether it be for a trap, a grave, a ditch, pit or even a well. Since there is no real purpose and no size of the hole it’s hard to tell whether time is measured into this race. For 4 guys (guys could be slang for women or men) any size and shape, stamina, and strength. I would say a hole could vary in an hour. Where as 4 “guys” could equal 2 “guys” that are digging their hole in half the time…or half the distance (unmeasured).
So my answer would have to be that they are ”=”

WAIT A SEC, are these 2 guys local council workers? have they had their morning tea break yet? Is one of them the team supervisor? Is it a saturday or sunday – which means it could be overtime payments? What is the publically advertised deadline for completion of this project?
My answer is:
2 weeks after the proposed deadline,
3 weeks if overtime is included.
Probably 150% over budget too.
