My mind, it drifts away, and I ponder what I see before me
The forest floor,
crumpling beneath my feet, drenched with last nights rain
Small, illuminated fungi seem to smile at my presence
Their collective spores, the forest vein
Drenched, yet warm, sticky air surrounds me
I breath deeply,
inhaling the saturated nutrients from within this space
A million crawling bugs seem to want to greet me
In this vast, and so diverse a place
The sound of singing birds ring through me
Into my ears,
the penetration of a thousand noises is deafening
Massive trees, seem to bend toward me
Huge, menacing, yet not threatening
Over to my right, a family sit quietly
They forage,
through the blazing, humid heat of the passing day
Huge but gentle beasts, they seem to know me
A grunt of acknowledgment exchanged before Im on my way
And as I walk, I feel enlightened
As if at once,
knowledge and wonder have been somehow, injected into me
I look around in awe, wonder and complete understanding
That it is not emptiness, but life I see.
And As I Walk
My second written entry for Gaia.
The rain forest is a remarkable place – one that I have been lucky enough to have experienced. It is amazing how little one can see in the forest, yet walking through it, gives the most massive sense of insignificence as you start to notice the life all around you. Every single step brings a new sight, noise, smell, wonder or even danger – its an awesome place, and the ulitimate life machine of the planet.

To walk is to live, you might like to do a camino, it was one of the best things I have ever done, three weeks walking through northern Spain.
