you are so sweet to answer all of these posts. i mean this in only the most constructive of ways: i think you need some constructive crit as well as praise. there’s very little energy here. there’s little story. why did you put the moon over the lake? what relevance does it have to the piece overall? other than being natural elements, do the two images speak to eachother? i want more – i want a more considered composition and color treatment. tell me something here – tell me a story.
Wow, I just got up and my list is so full of wonderful comments Thank you everyone. Goriilap, thanks for pointing this out to me, I will explain. The original shot is a daytime shot which was over exposed and almost white, so I decided first thing to darken it and saturate a little. I ended up saturating a lot, to see what the effect would look like, and I liked the strong colours. The sky however was then blinding white and the whole thing looked like a colour negative, so I adjusted the level and added a dark blue gradient to a selected sky, and added some directional light. I liked the result, but the strongly lit part of the woodland didnt look right, so I decided to add the moon as an illusion for a light source. Thats it really. This kind of thing is new to me, so it could possibly just be good luck it turned out this way. Who knows, I may never be able to get this effect again LOL. Thanks again everyone.
I like what you’ve done here. You’ve taken a lovely scene and given it some tasteful modifications that have given it a surreal look. It’s a scene that draws the viewer in for a closer look. Nicely done.
Not sure I can add much to the comments here, you have gotten many, but I like the soft feel but strong tones of the picture. I think I could learn a lot from what you did here. Good contrast as well.
You did really well here Julie. You sure salvaged the image and made a wonderful picture with it. I like the moon but the bright sky on the right doesn’t fit. It indicates the sun is still up or has just set in that general direction and you can’t get a full moon with the sun in that position. What I would do is darken the sky there as well and then add a halo of diminishing brightness around the moon. Or you could just shift the moon to the other side of the image and then it would appear to be taken just around sunset and that works. The other dead give away of the moon is the direction of the foreground shadows.
