Belly dancing is truly an art. I have to admit, I’ve done a bit of arabic style dancing here (there’s an outrageous night scene here)...but I think I’ll stick to my art and just paint it

I was a graphic designer in boston and then waashington dc for years, but in Lebabnon I tried to pursue my graphics, but i needed the arabic and French languauge so it was difficult… I freelance from time to time but turned to teaching and my own art! My arabic and french are limlited but at least i get to paint now!

I love the sense of movement and the joyeous colours. Would you say that your environment has influenced your choice of colours, or have you always painted like this? I think it is good that artists should travel if possible. I found myself using brighter colours after visiting Spain a few times and I’d imagine there is a lot of colour where you live. Of course, I am English and many English artists seem to feel almost guilty at using bright colours. Friends sometimes look at my work and say, “Hmmm .. you like bright colours don’t you,” almost as though it was a fault.

Blythart… what can i say about being influenced… as an artist I believe every moment, view, feeling… influences our art.. It’s who we are. So defintely my time in beirut has had an impact on my art as well as teaching art at 3 schools here from elementary through to high school. It keeps me seeing art in the eyes of the children… so joyful and truthful. As far as using color… it’s there so use it! There are times when i see a beautiful piece of artwork with muted colors and I say wow, with such little color the image is expressed so fully. Then I go home and try to capture that feeling in my art, but ultimately it doesn’t feel like me, so i break out my colors and go for it! Thanks again for your support.
