I first saw this poem on the wall of the home of some friends of ours. He was in surgical residency just like my husband so the poem had a double meaning, i.e. that of being “My Daddy”, and also that of being an M.D. (medical doctor). So I was ecstatic when I then found this in a catalog many years later called “Personal Creations”, or their on-line address is personalizationmall.com . or personalcreations.com . No author is attributed to this poem either in the catalogue or on-line.Although this is not necessarily a “Christian” card, I think of the verse in Psalms 127:3 that says: “Children are a gift from God; they are his reward.” (The Living Bible Translation). And for that reason I am submitting it to those groups as well.

Editing facts: For the background photo: I took a picture of my computer screen as it was playing music from one of my CD’s. I then cropped that photo, straightened it and made color adjustments to it using Picasa 3. The Father/Son photo is from my collection. I edited it using Professor Franklin’s Instant Photo Effects and used PicNik to do the neon adjustments. I used Magic Photo Editor to combine the background and neon photo. I then finished it off using Professor Franklin’s Instant Photo Effects for the writing of the poem. Hope you enjoy it!

  • Hi Lois. Thanks so much! I’ve been mulling this idea over for several days, trying to think of how to put a picture to the words. This is what I finally came up with. Always like a challenge (as do you)!

Awww…that is sooo sweet!!! I love that it has double meaning for you.

  • Awe, thanks Jujubean. I like the fact that it can go either way. . .M.D. for “My Daddy” or also add the extra meaning of “Medical Doctor”! I appreciate your comment. :-)

A touching poem, well done composition and treatment, i think it would make a wonderful card

  • Thanks so much. The trickiest part was finding the right picture that worked well for the neon treatment. I tried lots of them but this was the only one that showed up well!

Love the poem and a beautiful image.

  • Glad you liked this. The photo is of my oldest grandson who was being held by his paternal grandfather. It’s one of my favorite pics of them together!
