I took this photo shortly after 9/11. Patriotism was running high after that event and the US flag was being sold everywhere, including the grocery store! I wanted to somehow show how much I loved this country and this is what I came up with. I knew my Dad also loved the American flag (being a Veteran of WW II himself) so I made an 8 × 10 copy of this and put it in a gold frame for him. He was so pleased with it that it sat on their fireplace mantle for all to see.
My Dad died on 6/12/05 in his sleep. My Mom just recently moved from their home of over 62 years into an apartment, but this photo is still in a prominent place in her new “home”.
Thanks so much to all you Veterans out there who put yourself in harms way, so that the rest of us back in the US can continue to enjoy the freedom that we so frequently take for granted.
An interesting aside: the white rose in front of the flag is called “John F. Kennedy” or “JFK” for short. After taking the photo my husband told me the name of the rose and I thought it appropriate since he was assassinated while serving as President of the United States.
