We suspect our dog, Daisy, has Cushings Disease. She’s got all the symptoms: excessive drinking, and of course what goes in must come out so she pees a lot in huge quantities! Her urine is so dilute that her specific gravity is very low. She no longer likes to jump up on the furniture because she has a hard time getting up. She needs help now to do so. She has a big fat belly. Seems to have more pink skin showing through her coat suggesting that she’s losing fur, although we haven’t really noticed a lot laying around! But she has really dry skin and has flakes all over her fur on top like dandruff. We haven’t had the ACTH stimulation test done yet but the Vet suspects this is what she has.
Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this disease in dogs and if they have found any alternative treatments in place of Lysodren which is basically a chemo therapy drug and risky to use?
Any info. would be helpful. I’m especially looking for info. regarding safer alternative treatments. Is a change in diet of any help?
