Book by its cover?
In this design I was playing around with the concept of how people judge one another. I chose to do this in a paint-by-numbers style so that at first glance, people have no choice but to judge where which colors go. The purpose of which is to prove them wrong.
I tried this on several people, most of which assumed she had a pink shirt and blue eyes and blond hair, which is partially right, but not quite.
A person has to get to know this shirt before they realize she has pink and blue hair. At which point, they know her true colors.
This shirt is a physical representation of the personal judgments we make on others, especially those who appear different.

This is what the image would actually look like if she were colored in.
special thanks to johnston photography and Loriel Andre’a for their help and professionalism in my artistic process!

Great design!!! Why don’t you do a ‘filled in’ version?
Nadine Smith replied
i’ve got a filled in version on my computer, i used it to number the sections correctly, have you read the description?? i know a filled in version would be aesthetically pleasing. i’ll definetly think about putting it up.
Nadine Smith replied
i uploaded a colored in version to the right

Clever idea Nadine, I like it a lot!
Nadine Smith replied
thank you, its a concept i came up with for a college assesment, but i thought it should be a t-shirt design. it makes the point more clearly than a poster print.
blacksesameseed
hey, that’s cool. And cute. Nice.
Nadine Smith replied
thank you blacksesameseed!!

I don’t think James has read the description, which is a shame because this is a really claver idea.
Nadine Smith replied
thanks, which is what it is all about. i think it would be a perfect top for those who are at the receiving end of social judgment. thanks again sjem!!

this has got to be my favourite shirt so far!
i love the picture, and idea behind it because i dont like it how people are always judging
thats Gods job
this is a shirt id be proud to wear
Nadine Smith replied
thanks!! yep, definetly what i was getting at, who are we to judge!!
i get so annoyed when i hear my friends bagging out ppl before they even know them… i mean honestly, they could be the most amazing person and they wouldn’t even know!!!
pretty much every time that happens i go out of my way to befriend the person being unwillingly judged!
have a good one :D

i think a ‘filled version’ defeats the purpose of this design – am i wrong?! ok, so perhaps i am particularly sensitive to the concept of being judged ;) i have short hair, am female and NOT gay!!! i LOVE your concept, nadine! directly challenges people’s assumptions. great work!!
Nadine Smith replied
thanks heaps, thats exactly what im getting at :)
