The references to Redbeard, Sherlock’s childhood pet dog, in season 3, were so heartbreaking.
I love dogs. In fact, I only got one a few months ago, after hoping and waiting for 27 years to finally have the time, the space, and the means to give the little furry fella everthing he needs. (Yes, ‘he’, not ‘it’.)
Naturally, I’m terrified already that something bad might happen to him. Even thinking about the fact that he will grow old and will eventually leave forever, like my pet mice did when I was younger, is killing me, so the whole story about growing attached to something or someone and then be completely shattered when they’re gone is something that I can’t ignore.
I needed to put my feels down on paper.
So I did. In Pilot pen 03. No references used for wee Sherly, random photographs of Irish Setters used as vague references for ‘Redbeard’.
Colourised digitally.

I produce drawings, paintings, general artworks. Mostly portraits. I will never get tired of exploring faces. Interesting faces, old faces, sad faces, young faces, ugly faces, happy faces, ridiculous faces, outrageous faces… Well, you get the idea. I’m obsessed with faces.
