12″×16″ acrylic on canvas panel

An exercise painting in my acrylic class. It was painted for my students to follow and paint along.

Buy it, I’m already well into my 60’s and if I’m going to be famous, well, I’m running out of time. I like to think my work has been influenced by the great impressionists, although my wife says it’s because I won’t go and get my eyes checked. At any rate, I do love to paint watercolour and acrylics and it’s a true wish of mine that you enjoy viewing my work. Go ahead and let me know what you think, I love to read your comments. (Well….the good ones anyway.)

To me, this image speaks of power with the forceful movement of the water surrounded by those large boulders. I really like how you did this, Jim. The built up texture of the water’s spray is a nice effect, too.

  • Thanks so much Marsha, you’ve made excellent observations about this work and it’s so appreciated.

I didn’t know you do acrylics Jim! Wow, this is great! I also like to built-up texture at the rocks and that contrast where the water comes out under the bridge – brilliant!

  • Ha…… Maree I probably post more acrylic work than I do watercolour work. But in all fairness to you, you’re not the first who thought I was just a watercolour artist. I think it’s because a lot of my work looks like it could be watercolour, even when it’s acrylic. Thanks

  • I’m in it with you dear…. so yeah let’s go. I actually have a pool out back and so help me the heat has been so bad the pool water is almost like bath water. Thanks Holly.

Oh my ……you do tackle what I would shy away from Jim,, and what a terrific success you craft every time , the movement is just mesmerizing Art work ..awesome acrylics .
Your always superb comments light up my comment page Jim , I thank you so much !

  • How this for strange Paul, the one thing “art wise” that used to just scare me to death was done other than “Portraits.” I used to actually turn away commission work to other artist locally who I knew where portrait artist. Finally I just said to myself, enough is enough and I started attempted portraits like crazy. I still don’t think it’s my strongest element that makes up my portfolio, but I’m no longer afraid to take a commission portrait. Thank for your extremely nice comment.

Wow Jm that water is certainly gushing.

  • It is looking pretty strong isn’t it. Let’s just say it was right after a serious storm. Thanks Val.
