With the Wind at My Back by Jim Phillips

Watercolour using WN artist colours on Arches 140# not

Simple watercolour showing a good day to be sailing with a full sail.

Buy it, I’m already well into my 60’s and if I’m going to be famous, well, I’m running out of time. I like to think my work has been influenced by the great impressionists, although my wife says it’s because I won’t go and get my eyes checked. At any rate, I do love to paint watercolour and acrylics and it’s a true wish of mine that you enjoy viewing my work. Go ahead and let me know what you think, I love to read your comments. (Well….the good ones anyway.)

This one’s full of life and has a sweeping composition. Excellent.
Do you use any other brands of colors, Jim?

  • Thanks Douglas, and yes to your question. Besides Winsor Newton, I use DickBlick artist watercolours and Cotman colours as well.

I don’t suppose today would ba a good day for sailing, would it? Really nice movement in this with the tilt of the boat, billowy sails & choppy water. The sky is so beautiful & dramatic as well…I can see the clouds moving right along. You have all the right elements for a great sail!

  • Actually here in NC it’s a pretty nice day Marsha and probably a decent wind as well. Yesterday was a different story as a severe thunder storms set off tornados warnings for most of the day. Appreciate the kind comments of this one Marsha, thanks.

superb Jim, very eye catching, interesting scenery and homes.yikes hope the tornadoes have gone!

  • Thanks Ginny, much appreciated, and yes the tornados warnings have moved on. I don’t think we actually had one to touch down yesterday even though the conditions were right for them.

the weather here is horrible well good for farmers torrential rain weeks of it even though massive floods most of the country seems to be under water. third year in a row. terrible damage , major roads cut … we usually have ‘cyclones ’ in summer but so far none… up north now so far down as I am…[off to bed now it’s 2.30 am!]

Love the pigment in the sky with the sutle pink and the serene greenish blue water! What a nice place I’d love to be right now :) Have a great day, Jim.

  • Well it’s not like you’ve got far to go to get to a place like this Jennifer.
