Wet and Wild by Jim Phillips

Watercolour using Cotman colours on Arches 140lb coldpress not.

The lesson here was to keep the horizon treeline and water more silhouetted and/or muted in order to bring the focus to the brilliance of the sunsetting skyline.

Buy it, I’m already well into my 60’s and if I’m going to be famous, well, I’m running out of time. I like to think my work has been influenced by the great impressionists, although my wife says it’s because I won’t go and get my eyes checked. At any rate, I do love to paint watercolour and acrylics and it’s a true wish of mine that you enjoy viewing my work. Go ahead and let me know what you think, I love to read your comments. (Well….the good ones anyway.)

Love your palette here and the lovely textures. The red and green just sing.

  • There must have been deep seeded thoughts of Christmas while I was painting this one Bev. LOL Thanks.

I like the varied colors in this! Really nice, Jim. Happy New Year.

  • Actually some of the yellows came across a touch weak when I published online Marriet. Don’t be too surprised if I repost this one. Thank you and Happy New Year to you as well.

Gorgeous work, Jim… love the color selection and tones! Thanks for the teacher-tip in your description, too! TWO THUMBS UPS!!!

  • The thumbs up is much appreciated Bob, I try not to come across as the teacher too strongly as the majority of the artist who comment on my work could take me to school with little effort. LOL You and the Misses have a Happy New Year.

I love the dramatic dark values and the intensity of the color. Great painting!

  • Great compliment Lora as that was the objective of this particular work for both me and my students. Thank you.

Lovely piece….great color! I like the tenacious leaves you left on the tree.

  • Those leaves are there because I thought they were needed, it’s actually bare as a baby’s butt around here this time of the year….lol

Very nice, love the contrast in this one.

  • Thanks Sandrine, I was shooting for a silhouetted feel without making everything super dark.
