Sunset Looking Over Bouge Sound by

Watercolour using DickBlick artist colours on Arches 140lb coldpress Not.

Bouge Sound is one of the bodies of water that separate the mainland of North Carolina and the barrier islands that line the coastline. This scene is not far from my home.

Buy it, I’m already well into my 60’s and if I’m going to be famous, well, I’m running out of time. I like to think my work has been influenced by the great impressionists, although my wife says it’s because I won’t go and get my eyes checked. At any rate, I do love to paint watercolour and acrylics and it’s a true wish of mine that you enjoy viewing my work. Go ahead and let me know what you think, I love to read your comments. (Well….the good ones anyway.)

Well I will help the comments along…..It’s beautiful Jim.!
The horizontals and warm colours make it feel very relaxing.
I really love how you have organized the composition to include the veiwer…I feel I am just there near those vertical trees.

Great work Jim. The stark black tree makes the painting. Love the work on the foreground bank.

  • I think it does rely on that group of trees to kinda pull things together. Thanks so much Ian, good eye, fine comment.

Beautiful colors with striking contrast. Very peaceful looking.

  • I realize it’s lacking detail, but sometimes Marsha I really just want to paint for the sake of colour alone. Thanks for a lovely comment.

This sets a mood without alot of detail getting in the way…..wish I could remember that as I go overboard on detail most of the time.

  • I’m not remembering any of your work where I would have used the word overboard on Marsha, and allowing a certain amount of detail into a painting can be a good thing, it just depends on the individual work, don’t you think so?
