Nature's Locks by Jim Phillips

Acrylic on canvas panel
Original 20″×16″

Painted from an old photo taken in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

Buy it, I’m already well into my 60’s and if I’m going to be famous, well, I’m running out of time. I like to think my work has been influenced by the great impressionists, although my wife says it’s because I won’t go and get my eyes checked. At any rate, I do love to paint watercolour and acrylics and it’s a true wish of mine that you enjoy viewing my work. Go ahead and let me know what you think, I love to read your comments. (Well….the good ones anyway.)

all your acrylic paintings touch me. i think you really love this material and needn’t oil painting at all. I am still out of this material. but i am getting interested with your paintings. it must be more simple and good for speed painting after trainning. only i need is color tubes and brushes and water. and it dries very quickly. i am now painting in oil on drawing paper which gessoed for first layer. if i use acrylic, maybe i needn’t gesso neither. it sounds good for me. this work is one of typical acrylic painting i think. wonderful job, My friend, Jim.

  • You can certainly use acrylic on paper without gesso. Yes, Hidemi, I enjoy Acrylic painting very much. It still think oils give a richer look, but I love the versitility of the acrylics.

Love the style you used on the rocks.

  • Wondered if it was too much outline, but yeah it seems to work in this one.
