WN watercolours on 140lb Fabriano watercolour paper

My wife Barbara is an unaware model in this realistic, but not neccessarily complimentary, scene of her digging in one of her many flower beds. Let just hope she doesn’t see this one.

Buy it, I’m already well into my 60’s and if I’m going to be famous, well, I’m running out of time. I like to think my work has been influenced by the great impressionists, although my wife says it’s because I won’t go and get my eyes checked. At any rate, I do love to paint watercolour and acrylics and it’s a true wish of mine that you enjoy viewing my work. Go ahead and let me know what you think, I love to read your comments. (Well….the good ones anyway.)

A lovely portrait Jim! I’m sure Barbara is going to love this one!

  • Well, I know she’s got a sense of humor or she wouldn’t have stayed married to me, so maybe your right. Thanks Maree.

I think it is a beautiful portrayal- have captured her singleness of intent (focus) very well

  • Thanks Fred, this really was my intention.

Really wonderful Jim-a wonderful portrait. That is what is wonderful about it-it is realistic!

  • Thanks Pamela, I really did sneak out the door and shot a quick photo with a zoom, which is what I worked from, because she would have never posed this way.

I like this everyday life painting very much, taken in the action and in a tranquil attitude of someone enjoying gardening. It is a “formidable” hymn to your wife and her favourite hobby Jim.
  • Thanks Rene, she does love to dig in the dirt. The little girl just comes right out.
