Winsor Newton paints on 90lb Fabriano paper

Painted for a challenge in the Just Watercolours Group, special thanks go to photographer, Steve Smith for his photo entitled Eilean Donan.

Eilean Donan by Steve Smith

Buy it, I’m already well into my 60’s and if I’m going to be famous, well, I’m running out of time. I like to think my work has been influenced by the great impressionists, although my wife says it’s because I won’t go and get my eyes checked. At any rate, I do love to paint watercolour and acrylics and it’s a true wish of mine that you enjoy viewing my work. Go ahead and let me know what you think, I love to read your comments. (Well….the good ones anyway.)

The atmosphere of the place is perfectly rendered. It seems you are more optimistic than the photograph shows : your sky and water are brighter and to me, iit’s fantastic like that. Love the colours used too

  • This was a challenge for me Corinne, in that the colours are deep in the photo. I was a bit nervous that I might get them alittle muddy if I got to dark. Love the photo, but I OK with mine being a little bit brighter.

Jim…you have made an excellent painting from Steves photo..I fell in love with that pic as soon as I saw it…I was going to enter this challenge..but a bit nervous now I’ve seen your lovely painting..Cathy

  • You’d better get painting Cathy, I love to see what other artist do with the same subject. For me at least, it about the personal challenge to see what I do, ever about whether I can paint it better than someone else. I would be excited to see your version of this. Of course I also know how to except a compliment too, and I know this is what your intent was, so thank you.
