Sewing by the Window's Light by

Gouache colours on 90lb Fabriano paper

I was very impressed after reading a book on American Impressionists by Elizabeth M. Montgomery. This is not an attempted study, but I was influenced by an oil painting on canvas entitled The Seamstress by America artist, Joseph De Camp. I borrowed a similar theme from De Camp and tried to use a similar impressionistic style.

Buy it, I’m already well into my 60’s and if I’m going to be famous, well, I’m running out of time. I like to think my work has been influenced by the great impressionists, although my wife says it’s because I won’t go and get my eyes checked. At any rate, I do love to paint watercolour and acrylics and it’s a true wish of mine that you enjoy viewing my work. Go ahead and let me know what you think, I love to read your comments. (Well….the good ones anyway.)

love the light- floods the work- how the yellow gracefully turns into lavender and works its way down to a deeper purple- very nice- you know Gauguin came to mind again (of course not the style but subject- his suzanne’s sewing)

This is really nice, Jim. It so much makes me think of someone’s mother lovingly mending her family’s clothes – her heart is as warm as the light flooding through. Great image.

  • Very sweet comment Marsha. Thanks so much.
