Watercolour on 140 lb watercolour paper
original 22″ × 18″

“South 40” is more of a southern slang term not neccessarily referring to an actual direction or measurement of areas, but moreover to the properties on a farm that are the fartherest away from the farmhouse itself.

Buy it, I’m already well into my 60’s and if I’m going to be famous, well, I’m running out of time. I like to think my work has been influenced by the great impressionists, although my wife says it’s because I won’t go and get my eyes checked. At any rate, I do love to paint watercolour and acrylics and it’s a true wish of mine that you enjoy viewing my work. Go ahead and let me know what you think, I love to read your comments. (Well….the good ones anyway.)

great composition, and balance. I like the warmth of the golden field in the mid-distance and the cool shade of the tree that you need to pass through to get there… And I personally love rickety old fences and gates. Great job

  • I understand, I’m a sucker for seascapes. Thanks so much for a super comment, it’s really appreciated.

No, no you are not a sucker for seascapes !!…
you gave this one such a depth and a peaceful atmosphere, I feel I am on the path overlooking the field…. it looks like a stage setting ! and the use of those two warm colours gives a real expressive tableau.. I would like to sit with my picnic basket right there at South 40 !

  • You’re just to sweet. I withdrawn the above comment and add, “I just a sucker for a good landscape!” Thank you Corinne for a lovely comment.

This is such a restful painting.
I really like the composition. Especially how you have the viewer right there on the track.I wouldn’t mind sharing Corrine’s picnic in that spot!!

  • Then we’ll just turn it in to a party. Thank you Sandy.
