Watercolour on “I’ll describe the paper”
You know when you buy a frame that didn’t come from a frame shop but from a department store and it has that pretty photo inside….and you know that thin, real slick, very glossy paper it’s been printed on that you usually just throw away…..I used the back side just to see how it would paint. It sure ain’t watercolour paper…LOL

As for the title, this is a scene from the head end of the New River not far from my home and right now the weather is….take a guess. If you guessed wet and cold, well congratulations, you were right!

Buy it, I’m already well into my 60’s and if I’m going to be famous, well, I’m running out of time. I like to think my work has been influenced by the great impressionists, although my wife says it’s because I won’t go and get my eyes checked. At any rate, I do love to paint watercolour and acrylics and it’s a true wish of mine that you enjoy viewing my work. Go ahead and let me know what you think, I love to read your comments. (Well….the good ones anyway.)

It is wet & cold Jim – I reckon it has come out really well on the thin photo paper

  • Several below or after your comment mentioned Yupo paper and they would very close with that comparison Terri, thank you.

  • Sweet of you Irene, thank you. We actually had been having very comfortable fall like weather all season until yesterday and today and then bam, winter just crashed through the door….LOL

It does feel wet and cold Jim.
I am surprised at the result with the paper. You probably got the nearest to Yupo paper :)

You surely have done it so very well!!!!

  • It wasn’t kinda like Yupo, it painted just like Yupo. I’m not a huge fan of Yupo……LOL So thank you for your very kind comment Beatrice.

I like the painting….I’m feeling a chill…..especially like tree idea of using the paper…..came out great….now make some frames…..lol….

  • Kj, I once said that at a time my painting really felt like it wasn’t fun anymore and began to feel like work I would seek a new passion. Back in the day when I stretched the majority of my canvases myself (tail end of the 60’s and first half of the 70’s) I didn’t really enjoy it then (lack of patience) so I’m going to leave those creative sculpted canvases to my close brah’ at WhiteDove Studios who does them so well…….LOL

The result is not as bad as you can think Jim

  • Here in the Southern half of the US we call this a “backdoor compliment” Corinne….LOL Thank you dear.

You’ve got the atmosphere of a wet cold day perfectly expressed..I imagine it was somewhat like painting on Yupo…it is a really great painting because it connects immediately…

  • Yeah, you guys shoved that cold front really south this last time Janis. Thanks for the comment about catching the atmosphere and read what I wrote on Beatrice’s reply about the paper.

Great experiment on the photo paper….the results, which by the way, are fabulous….look alot like that of yupo. I love the sky & how you carried the pink clear across ending in the few leaves that are hangers on. Hope you warm up soon!

  • Love your personal highly observant comments Marsha, it really sends a good message that you really took the time not just to glance at the work, but rather you gave it a good healthy look. And yeah, I hope we warm back up some as well.

You have captured the feeling of a cold wet day so well…interesting paper choice—looks like it worked quite nicely!

  • Wonderful comments you made Pam, thank you very much. The paper was a fun choice, but not something I’m anxious to use again anytime soon.
