Oh so it is not a painting…..........
See …........I can’t tell what a photo or one of your paintings anymore…..ha…..
this is excellent…...........I could just picture it in real life…..........

  • Jim Phillips replied

All I meant was that I didn’t have to work from memory, I had the photo to work from. I’m not exactly a photo realist, you know. I think Van Goghish is the term you use. LOL

  • Ruth Vilmi

    Ruth Vilmi

I thought it was a painting too. Have you manipulated the colours quite a lot?

  • Jim Phillips replied

That’s because it is a painting Ruth. LOL Like I just told kj, I just meant that I didn’t have to work from memory, I had a photo to work from.

  • Marsha Elliott

    Marsha Elliott

Oh wow, Jim…this is perfect! So glad you took your camera as this made a gorgeous painting! I wish so much I could learn to do foilage like this – it’s so wonderful.

  • Jim Phillips replied

Thanks Marsha. And I have a feeling that you can do foilage a lot better than you’re making claim.

I really like this it is really “Farmed Up” as my son tells me any time I paint anything rural. I love it, its my kinda thing…Ha Ha….. Great Job Sir

  • Jim Phillips replied

I too enjoy painting those “Farmed up” sorta things. LOL Thanks Barbara.

  • Marsha Elliott

    Marsha Elliott

Are you up for a bet on that foilage thing?

  • Jim Phillips replied

Only if I could get you in my classroom to make sure that you at least tried it. LOL

Beautifully rendered, Jim. This has so much charm and I love the textures and energetic brush strokes. Lovely piece of work, and yes, I know it is a painting.

  • Jim Phillips replied

Thanks Bev. Just for the record I doubt kj was confused, he was just jerk’n my chain and as for Ruth, well she might not have known kj was just kidding me. LOL

Jim what happened to all those nice ladies that wanted to have a glass of wine with you on that wonderful sunny porch? They are certainly not with you when you go deer hunting, Hah! Good job on the foilage. I’ll bet after the 1st frost this scene will change up a lot.

  • Jim Phillips replied

Ha, I understand what you mean. Not sure about other countries, but in the US legal hunters provide over 75% of the financial means that support wildlife preserves. I’m not out kill’n “Bambi.” And yes you’re right, fall hasn’t hit hard in Mississippi yet.

always admire your “controlled freedom”- like how the grey green transforms itself into the fence- interesting how the light works its way down and opens up towards the bottom- really accentuates the fence- and the splash of color for the roof- very expressive- really a wonderful painting Jim-

  • Jim Phillips replied

Fred, I’m always impressed with your ability to get into the painting and provide an effective indepth review. That to me says as much about you as an artist as do your paintings. Thank you.

A beautiful piece, Jim. The partially open gate invites the viewer to go in and explore a bit. I like the light play in this one, too.

  • Jim Phillips replied

Thanks Gordon. I like very much the part of your comment talking about the gate inviting the viewer, because that how I felt the day I discovered it.

  • Corinne Pouzet

Stunning Jim ! All the splashes of greens and greys and the little touch of red…..very original painting.
What is obvious here is the ability you have to change the mediums : you are as good in watercolour as in acrylics ! (for what I am very admirative)

  • Jim Phillips replied

Thank you Corinne, that’s a very nice compliment. You know I teach both mediums so important that I practice both mediums.
