lets hope these areas remain as they are- unobstructed openess always aids in perspective (not referring to art)- always love how you balance colors-the yellow green floating about- the red of the roof appearing in the grass etc.- intentional or not aids in the sense of whole-

  • Jim Phillips replied

Fred, I love your very keen observations and wonderful comments. Thanks friend.

WOW! This is really beautiful! Our worlds could collide Jim! This could be Australia except for the shape of the shed (oops! I think you would say ‘barn’) roof! Beautifully painted impression of ‘Down East’!

  • Jim Phillips replied

We Americans just love to make the English language as confusing as possible. If this was not on a farm, but rather on a golf course or in my back yard I would call it a shed. LOL Thanks Lynda, love your comments.

I really like the colors – we’re seeing a lot of those colors here right now – yellow soybean fields, red barns, and the cold weather coming in the blue-gray clouds – This makes me want to go paint them!

  • Jim Phillips replied

This is kinda what it’s looking like here. You can tell fall is clearly on the way, but just hasn’t arrived yet. Still too much green, but alot of yellow-green.

This looks just like a typical scene from around here right now with Autumn beginning. There’s the cool mornings & evenings with a bit of frost likely, & your painting depicts the warm, sunny afternoons with the blue/gray skies overhead with just the right amount of sun filtering through to cast a warm glow on fields ripe for harvest. Yeah, such a beautiful time of year. Great painting!

  • Jim Phillips replied

And a great comment Marsha. Thanks so much.

Nice feel in this landscape, Jim. My roots are near LaGrange, NC. My great grandfather bought land near there and the land stayed in the family. But it’s shrunk to 30 acres or so from the over 500 acres great grandpa had started with just after the Civil War. That area has such a strong sense of place. But that is fading. Thanks for sparking my memories with this one. Cheers! TPS

  • Jim Phillips replied

It’s always nicer when someone can directly relate to a painting as I know you can with this one. Thanks Michael.

  • Colin Cartwright

Oops, didn’t read the description properly. Sorry, Jim. Too busy perusing the painting!
This looks so like a watercolour. It’s hard to tell on the hard glare of the ones and zeros of digital!

  • Jim Phillips replied

No problem Colin, your comment was very nice and would have applied to either medium. To comment or reply to a question you asked earlier, yes the digital process does effect how the looks of your work. It seems to effect that work on canvas or textured surfaces more. I do OK with the works on paper, but none of them ever look as rich as the originals.

Nice work my Friend, that building look almost english with that roof thats what we call a sussex barn roof !

  • Jim Phillips replied 19 days ago

Most of our American architecture comes from either English or European cultures, and in this part of the US it’s most likely to be English. Thanks for such a insightful observation Bill.
