  • AngelArtiste

    AngelArtiste

i am very curious, what is difference betwee gouache and watercolour

  • Jim Phillips replied

No problem Angel, gouache is a water-based paint just like watercolours with basicly one major difference. It has an additional gum product added to it which make it less transparent than watercolours, thus making the colour appear a bit more vibrant. It is often referred to as the stepping stone between watercolour and acrylic paints. Use it just like you would your watercolours, but just don’t expect it to be as transparent. To achieve nice rich colours in watercolours requires laying many times. Gouaches paints would allow you to cut that down considerablely. Hope that helped you.

  • AngelArtiste

    AngelArtiste

Thank you. I don;t have any gouache but being a ridiculously curious person, I wondered what it might be like.
