    Corinne Pouzet

Ohh… Brilliant perspective with these old buildings all along….
Also, you have beautifully rendered the reflections with the only palette of blues contrasting with the grey & sepia tones of the buildings . I can recognize the pure Venician atmosphere….a super good feeling I love

  • Jim Phillips replied

This was what my memory gave me Corinne. Tans with just hints of colour. It’s my impression anyway. Thanks for just a nice comment.

Wonderful work Jim! : ) I’ve yet to see Venice in real life…but if it’s anything like this it’s lovely.. Wen x

  • Jim Phillips replied

It’s actually far more impressive than this. This is sorta like a back street. Thank you Wen for being so nice with your wonderful comment.

  • Jim Phillips replied

PS Thanks for favoring, I didn’t see it when I replied the first time.

  • Irene Burdell

    Irene Burdell

Well you have brought it to life again , this is fabulous work Jim , I love it and it is going into my fav’s x

  • Irene Burdell

    Irene Burdell

I love the looseness of your paintings , I wish I could paint like this , my paintings are too stiff and look too much like photo’s .

  • Jim Phillips replied

I’ll confess Irene, there was a time when I felt that my work was “too tight” as well. I’ve had to force myself to paint with a looser brush. I rarely use very small detailing brushes any longer. Thank you for favoring this one, that’s always a real compliment.

  • Susan Bergstrom

    Susan Bergstrom

It is a shame Heidmi has vanished…this reminds me of the work he would present…wonderful piece Jim!

  • Jim Phillips replied

I agree with you Susan, it is a shame we don’t hear much from Hidemi anymore. He was just getting started with his watercolours, but yes he did use a painter’s outline technique with his architectural illustrations similar to what appear in this piece. Thank you Susan for some excellent observations and comments. Also thanks for referring to me as Jim, instead of Mr. Phillips. I felt like going and buying a walker the other day. I may be close to 60, but I’m a young man at heart. LOL PS – How the nursing business coming along, or rather how’s the recovery business comming? Well I hope.

But those photos are the best challenges, Jim. Really satisfying when you give life and vibrancy to a dull image!

This is a fine watercolour, creating a sense of implied detail and depth, with minimal strokes. Into my faves.

  • Jim Phillips replied

That’s a good point Colin, and I agree with you. Thank you for a fine comment and for favoring, it’s very much appreciated.
