Late Afternoon

Late Afternoon

Acrylic on 11”x9” canvas board

While finishing up a round of golf at a local course, I was suddenly struck with the amazing changes in the landscape around me. The long stretching shadows and golden orange colors were just swallowing up the landscape.

Lovely Jim. Isn’t it amazing that we are as taken in by the shadows as we are the colors? You have a fine tuned eye and hand.

  • Jim Phillips replied

I guess because I’m older and slower, I just take more time to look at stuff. Thanks Carolyn.

Lovely work Jim…I love the deep saturated colours you’ve used here….there is such a powerful feeling of a peace that you must have had a really great day…

  • Jim Phillips replied

Janis, as it turns out I was teaching glazing in my acrylic class last week, when this light goes off thinking, OK you’re teaching this technique, why don’t you use it more often. My point is that I used quite a bit of dark glazes on this one to get the late shadowy feel.
And if what you meant by great day is that I played well….. WRONG. It was a nice day and I enjoyed being outside, but that was about it.
