Profile
Hello, my name is Silvana and my passion is Encaustic painting. The nature of my work allows for experimentation of materials without getting caught up in any limitations of medium, style or discipline.
My work is done with a hot air gun, an iron and a stylus late into the night, after a full day of being a wife, a mother, helping out in the office of my partners company and giving workshops in Encaustic painting. All of my tools have to be plugged in. There are more things to burn yourself on than a welding shop. Encaustic technique was not invented by fragile ladies, it was invented by ancient Greek fisherman to seal their boats against the harsh storms of the Mediterranean.
Today’s technique of using molten wax is that whenever the iron touches it, the wax colour melts and can be re-worked, so I can continue to change my artwork until I am happy with it. I find it an exciting medium, fun, and very addictive.
My inspiration and influences come from my Pagan belief and my love for life. From the connections I’ve made with different cultures, people, religions and countries. From this beautiful world we live in and the love that we share among us.
