This is sweet little Ryan…our second grandson who made his debut nearly 9 weeks early. He was born on July 22nd but was due at the end of September. He is snoozing in his incubator in the NICU at a Nashville hospital… he is breathing all by himself and weighs a whopping three pounds. He will have to stay there until he puts on a some weight…at least a few weeks. He is doing very well and his doctor has told his mommy that he will be ‘stepping down’ to the NICU on another floor. His first graduation!
Mommy is a bit blue…being separated from him is very difficult for her.

As an aside…I am amazed that this image turned out as well as it did! It’s the only one out of a zillion…and the only one with a portion of his face showing! He is in a glass incubator with a blanket on the top to keep light out of his eyes…the room was dim and I had to use a flash!.

He is precious.

Awe how adorable. Thanks for the wonderful write up on him Karen. Reminds me or when my girls were born prematurely. This will always be a special keepsake for you and family. Well done : )

  • Thank you so much, Sean….you must understand having had premature girls. Ryan’s big brother, Thomas was early as well…but only by 5 weeks. It’s tough to leave your baby…and the hospital is a good 45 minute drive.

gorgeous shot,,,I am a nurse who works in a NICU unit in Australia,,,these little babies constantly inspire me,, they struggle through so much,,,, I hope your daughter feels better soon,, and that Ryan is returned to his rightful home very soon,,,,

  • Thank you! I have come to admire those of you who struggle right along with these little guys! All the nurses are so kind, patient and full of encouragement. I guess he wanted to outshine his big brother…he was only 5 weeks early!

Oh God bless him! My son’s name is Ryan, it’s a great name.

  • Thank you very much! They picked his name just days before he was born! It suits him perfectly!

Oh my—so tiny and fragile, like a little bird. But in the Father’s arms!

  • He is tiny…and this photo makes him look huge compared to the way he appears in person! His mommy is taking his new big ‘brudder’ to see him today for the first time..he will be in the NICU for an undetermined time (they must weigh at least 4.5 lbs and be able to effectively suck and learn to swallow) Mom is quite sad that her new little one is not at home…but, he will be and he is doing very well. God is good and gracious, indeed!
