Last Dip of the Evening Sky

Poem of Stockholm’s charm

This is Stockholm Harbor with the city behind it, such a lovely place. The first time I saw the city I entered it from the north, the sun was setting and all the church steeples and historic buildings in old town were glowing in gold as the sun set. It’s a memory I will never forget!

Last Dip of the Evening Sky belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Masterpieces: Literary Workshop, Scenic Scandinavia and WMG

Last dip of the evening sky
Gold just above the horizon’s edge
Muted wistful shades of pink
Stretching out far beyond the line of sight

The ice of winter locks the land and sea as if it were one
No boats cutting their way home
Lake Malaren is frozen now
The starkness of Stockholm’s winter embraces me

I dare not wander far for fear of frostbite
On the hill beyond,
Fires warm the little houses
Inside the people wait for the first bloom of spring
Content to talk or make love in the warmth of a big feather bed

Watching the sunset over the rim of ice
I reflect on warm memories of summer
When this land beamed with life
Sailboats racing in the bay
While the fishermen head home after a long day at sea

This city glows in the summer sun
Church spirals and place domes reflect the golden warmth of the setting sun
Summer to winter, I’m forever enchanted by this city’s beauty and charm

This poem reminds me of all I love about winter, the way it allows the pace of everything to slow down. I feel like I need a big steaming mug of hot chocolate now:).

I use to go quite alot on business, it’s a lovely city summer and winter, but in summer it’s magical. Hope you make it. Also an hour ride out to Maryfried is a beautiful little town on the lake with a nice old castle, I think you would love it.

Of course all us itenerate poets are always dabbling, but none of the other ones seem to related to the groups theme. Poetry to me is something that flows in the unconsiousness of the moment much like someone else is passing through me.

I grew up in NYC so I know what you mean, I guess Stockholm is small in comparison, yet it is a city to just a really nice one. I hope you get to see it someday, I think you’d like it.

I do believe in extra sensory perception (ESP) I think we are all connected cosmically. One day I was comming home from work on a road I drove down every day. That day for some reason I kept thinking “what if a kid came zooming out in front of me” Because I was thinking this I slowed down and was looking to the side of the road when out of the corner of my eye a small child on a bicycle came zooming down his driveway into the street in front of me. If I hadn’t been thinking about that I wouldn’t of noticed and he might of died. I believe it was some sort of ESP that saved that child that day. So pay attention to those strange events they just might have some extra special meaning.
