Artist's Description

He looks into the future, knowing only his past
Clay pots and the kiva oven bread baked by his mother
The joy of riding his painted pony, and the wind in his hair
He could not see the iron horse cutting through the plains
Nor the white men with their wagons and neat little towns full of houses
Replacing the pueblo he knew so well
Nor the blood on the grass
Nor the end of his culture

Taos Pueblo, located in Taos NM USA is still occupied by Native Americans. They live in the adobe structures, still bake bread in Kiva ovens, and throw lovely pottery. It’s also a big tourist attraction, where many go to take pictures. Recently they built a casino to help fund the community. This majestic Native American agreed to pose for my picture. I think he must be a chief from his regal stance. Anyway, if you get a chance to visit Taos, definately make a stop, there are lovely shops of hand made crafts from jewerly, to musical instruments, to pottery and paintings.
