A world away by Mary Campbell
Clear

The farmlands of Pennsylvania are very productive. The Amish people forgo the use of modern equiptment, yet their farms are beautiful and bountiful. This picture was taken in the back roads of Amish Country PA (somewhere between Strasburg and Intercourse)

    Wonderful exposure!

  • I should probably let you think that, but actually it was terrible exposure. The sky was blown out, the man in the carriage was black as night… Thank god for the tools available with digital photography, and wonderful Photoshop program. It’s given all artists the tools needed to paint the pictures they want (even if the tools are digital tools instead of a paint brush).. Thanks for the comment Sky Fox..

To me this is a sensible kind of transport … I wish we could go back to it!

  • There is a place here in the states, you’d like call Macinac Island it’s in Michigan. Anyway they banned cars and everyone rides around in horse and carriages. I think it was made for you! Great place to visit too.

Another good one Mary; I think they keep thier farms a lot neater too then some with modern machinery.

  • They truely do take pride in their farms. I have this other picture I should put up of 2 amish woman sweeping the carriage path to the house. I was amazed at the care given.

That is truly beautiful. I admire the Amish for their self-reliance and devotion to family. xo

  • Yes, they are interesting, admirable, with a great capacity for love and forgiveness. I remember when some nut shot up one of their schools killing many children, the parents went out of their way to forgive the perputrator. I don’t know many of us who could of followed their religion and forgiven, at a time like that.
