Falls and Mill
The river powers this old red mill, a landmark in Clinton, NJ. Built originally as a wool mill in 1810, it was converted in the late 1800’s to a grist mill. Now a museum, with the mill wheel still being powered by the river and falls.
Perhaps if we were as smart as our ancestors we would think of a way to generate energy again from free sources of energy like the waves of the oceans, the rivers power, and the wind, phasing out gas, and pollution generating sources of energy..

Yes, I couldn’t decide how I liked this cropped so the two versions one highlighting the falls and the river with the mill in the background and one close up of the interesting mill.

You’re right, we should go back a 100 years and start using the natural resources at hand! A fabulous shot!
Mary Campbell replied
Thanks Marianna, well i hope people do start thinking about it more, I know when I lived in the Netherlands they made electricity from the ocean waves. I think of all the coastline the US has you think someone would do the same here, instead of relying on oil and coal, we do need to get smarter.

Nice work, love the way the water came out!
Mary Campbell replied
Thanks Andy, I wanted to show the power of the river.. but I liked the close up of the building better.. so I compromised and put both up..

Hi Mary, this is a wonderful shot!! I love it!! Can you imagine what it will look like in the fall, and then in the snow? :)
Mary Campbell
Thanks Yes, I’m only about 20 min. from it, so I’ll probably head back when the leaves are changing and perhaps in the snow although we don’t get as much of that anymore. Must be global warming. I see your in PA, so you probably have lots of nice old buildings there. Well have a nice day.

Lovely photo and composition. I found this photo by looking at entries in “Power of Water” challenge. I Think this definitely describes “Power of Water” by showing its force and strength in the foreground as it flows over the spillway and also the waterwheel on the red mill which at one time was able to capture and utilize some of the power. I also agree with your comment about capturing free sources of energy!
Mary Campbell replied
Thanks Jane, I forgot I even entered it in that challenge. I hope the world and particularly the USA moves towards more eco friendly sources of energy, especially water power, wind power and solar power it’s so important to the worlds future.
