Renewal - Lewis Reeves Sam's House

The old stairs, contrasting with the new growth of the roses. Symbolically, Renewal is about preservation of the old and rebirth of the new world around it.

The steps are part of the Lewis Reeves Sam’s House is in Beaufort SC. It’s construction circa 1852 is attributed to Lewis Reeve Sams (1784-1856), a weathy planter and Rev. Thomas Fuller Sams who acquired the property after his mother’s death and was the owner on the eve of the Union occupation, during which the house was used as a hospital during the war. Many old southern houses survived the war because of the Yankee occupation of Beaufort. Today they add a particular charm to the town, and a nice tourist attraction.
